Joe DePalma is an Inspirational Singer/Songwriter, Author, Speaker and creator of Ready Set Rise.com. Joe developed an interest in the public speaking and self improvement industries in his late teenage years after a few tragedies occurred in his life that forced him to look deeper within himself and to seek out ways to help not only himself, but others overcome their fears and live more fully.
During Joe’s college years he began working for two years as an apprentice with Dr. Rob Gilbert who is a professor of Sports Psychology for over twenty five years and one of New York/New Jersey’s leading motivational speakers and inspirational personalities.
Upon graduating from college with a degree in Speech Communication Joe parlayed his education along with his training with Gilbert to land a job with the Economics Press which was a global publisher of inspirational magazines, leadership newsletters, and business training material for over thirty five years. “Bits and Pieces – The Magazine That Motivates The World” was the Economics Press’s most popular product which began its run in the mid 1960’s and is currently still begin published today (although a new company now produces it).
After 2 ½ years with the Economics Press Joe decided it was time to spread his wings. He left his job and spent time traveling around the country both soaking up the landscape as well as doing research for his first book about how to get the most out of your college experience. Joe continued to work on his book title “College Success Code EXPOSED – 100% Life Enhancing Secrets Professors Don’t Know & Parents Can’t Tell” off and on for many years and it’s now available here in the ReadySetRise.com store.
Upon returning from his adventures Joe starting working as a Career Speaker giving over 600 presentations to high school students in over 200 different locations throughout New Jersey & New York in just two years. Joe performed outstandingly at this job and was recognized as one of the best Career Speakers in the North East. He even began training others who were much more experienced than he was on how to give the presentations. Everything was going great until one day when it all went silent.
Joe was giving a presentation in Paterson New Jersey in May of 2002 when his voice shut off. He couldn't’t generate a sound. He gave so many energetic and vibrant presentations in such a short amount of time without amplification in combination with his training of other speakers that he blew his voice out. It was totally gone.
After months of Doctors, throat scopes, vocal training with therapy, and having to be silent and write down even the simplest request on his trusty pad... Joe finally regained the use of his voice, but it would be a few years until it came back 100%.
In the meantime, Joe was let go from the Career Speaking company. He then devoted his time to working on his book and picking up his guitar which he bought years early but never really pursued. This led Joe to the realization that he had a strong love of music and especially for songwriting. Considering all he could do was mumble the words he focused his songs around deep messages and not pitch perfect delivery. He would spend the next few years working on his musical craft as he entered into the next stage of his personal development journey.
About a year after Joe’s voice blew out he felt it was time to continue with his career. So, he found a New Jersey based Self Improvement Company on the internet and set-up an interview with the owner even though the one-man company wasn't’t hiring at the time. After a ten minute interview Joe was hired as the first full time employee of Self Improvement Online Inc. The company is better known by its most popular web site SelfGrowth.com which is now the leading self improvement web site on the internet featuring nine newsletters with almost a million subscribers, a line of print books, and tons of content with tens of thousands of daily visitors.
However, when Joe started with the company in 2003 it was just Joe and the company’s founder and President David Riklan in a small room above a chiropractor’s office in central New Jersey . Now Self Improvement Online Inc has its own office with fourteen employees and has positioned SelfGrowth.com to stake its claim as the online self improvement encyclopedia.
